Last night was the final showing for “Wishes”, the firework show at Magic Kingdom that has been happening since 2003.
We actually went to say our official goodbyes on Wednesday night — to somewhat avoid major crowds but it felt like everyone had the same plan. Even with the extra crowds it was a fun night being around other Disney fans who were also saying goodbye to “Wishes”.
And yes, I am sure for anyone who isn’t much of a Disney fan might not fully understand why we went to say goodbye to fireworks. I don’t blame you though, us Disney fans can be a bit weird. ;)
To me “Wishes” was a big part of my nights in the park. You can hear it from anywhere within the park and after going so many times you begin to associate it with tons of little memories. Things that I might have not really seen as a moment to remember.
Like the time we were eating ice cream by Rapunzel’s Village (aka Tangled Toilets) and the fireworks started. It was a perfect view and barely anyone was there that night.
The time my Mom saw “Wishes” for the very first time and then couldn’t stop smiling when she saw Tinkerbell fly down from the castle. She couldn’t believe it and couldn’t stop talking about it.
Or when we were hanging out behind the castle in Fantasyland and realized how much better it was to watch the show from there. And then suddenly a Cast Member started dancing and pretending to direct the firework show. Everyone walking by would just stop and applaud him on.
When we took my in-laws to California Grill for the first time and got to watch “Wishes” from the rooftop with them.
Or that moment we were riding Big Thunder Mountain and we would catch glimpses of the fireworks while on the ride.
These are just a few of the moments that I will forever associate with “Wishes”. I will truly miss this show. That doesn’t mean I am not excited for the new show taking its place, “Happily Ever After”. I am sure it will be just a magical and will become special to me in other ways.
So a question for all the Disney fans out there — are you sad about “Wishes” going away? And do you have any special memories of “Wishes”?
