A few weeks before Valentine’s Day I had the idea of creating an advent calendar counting down to Valentine’s. The goal was to write a little “date” idea in an envelope and surprise each other with it. I did the odd days, the Hubby did the even days.
It was so much fun and I loved planning little date night ideas. The best part was that we had to schedule a little bit of free time everyday to make these activities happen, which is a major plus. Especially if you are a somewhat work/blog-aholic who stays up late working every night (guilty).
We decided that any activity we would plan had to be free (or very cheap) as long as it involved us doing something together. The only pricey date was on Valentine’s Day, which was an extremely delicious fondue dinner.
Here are the activities/dates that we planned:
1. Movie & popcorn night at home
2. Enjoy some coffee and breakfast at Starbucks
3. Go for a stroll in downtown
4. Dance to old Frank Sinatra records
5. Bake a sweet treat together
6. Watch “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown”
7. Ice cream date (at home)
8. Enjoy talking about some shared memories
9. Make s’mores together
10. Go to Disney at night.
11. Go around the world (aka – walk around Epcot)
12. Video game night
13. Make tacos at home
14. Fancy fondue dinner date.
It was so much fun sharing these little moments together and we will definitely be doing this again next year. It also helped me realize that I sometimes need to enjoy the small things in life. I am always constantly checking my email, working late, and always rushing because of my mile long to-do list. This helped me realized that taking a little time out each day isn’t going to have a negative effect on my goals – it’s actually the opposite. Enjoying some time with my darling Hubby helps me feel energized, creative, and most importantly – so blessed to have him in my life.
Do you like to plan little random dates with your special someone? What are some budget-friendly things you like to do?
xo,

Life can get a little crazy. Spending time and enjoying the time with loved ones can sometimes be easily put in the back burner. You’re right that it’s important to enjoy the little things. I certainly enjoy just having dinner or having a night in watching a movie with my husband. He works nights so whatever time we have together can be limited during the day so I enjoy whatever time we can spend together.
